Head in the Clouds

$18.00

As a child, the ability to fly was the superpower I most wanted to have. Growing up, I was pretty aloof and was constantly teased for having “my head in the clouds.” To be able to fly above it all, live in the clouds, and see worlds I wasn’t privy to felt incredibly liberating. Before being an artist or a public health practitioner, I thought I would be a helicopter pilot.

Head in the Clouds consists of two notebooks containing photographs taken while traveling on a plane to Mississippi to conduct research. Personally, these two notebooks are my favorite. Something about them motivates me to propel upward and onward—energy in motion.

Each saddle-stitched notebook is approximately 5.5 inches wide × 5 inches long (clouds) and 5 inches wide x 7 inches long (turbulence). As these are made by hand, one at a time, sizes may vary slightly and there may be slight imperfections. Each notebook has 40 pages of white, unlined paper. Your notebooks will arrive wrapped in a plastic sleeve and includes a short, handwritten personal reflection on an aspect of its life cycle

About This Series

Because I was born, raised, and currently conduct research in the rural Deep South of the United States, I am privileged to consistently be exposed to some pretty spectacular vistas. From the cover photography to the paper cutting, the Rural Notes series is a limited edition of hand-constructed notebooks designed to capture a quintessential—but often overlooked—aspect of rural life. The currently available covers are from my travels to Mississippi (where I was born) and Oklahoma (the home of my mother’s side of the family).
